Until the lions have their own story tellers, the history of the world will always glorify the hunters

At IIT Kharagpur, Sanjeev Sanyal explaining what is horrifically wrong with our Indian history taught in schools. We are only taught the history of invaders and loosing the battles of Panipat, Buxsar, Plassey and 1857.

You can note that Marathas ruled the country for about 100 years but almost there is no mention of their contribution in Indian history syllabus. The dozens of battles of Bajirao Peshwa are taught in US and UK but he is rarely counted in Indian History books.

We are the world’s oldest civilisation and do not know/read our history properly. We are not aware of several legends from different parts of India, away from Delhi Saltanat.

Several myths proposed during colonial period have been perpetuated very long by Indians. Even the politicians of independent India helped Indian historians to write what suited them.

There must be a healthy debate on our history and opinions imposed on us from limited perspective without facts. We must remember that until the lions have their own story tellers, the history of the world will always glorify the hunters.
